TRAUMA RECOVERY SERVICES

INDIVIDUALIZED PLANS

You have unique experiences and biology that make up your past and a distinctive purpose and direction that can create your future. We work one-on-one with you to create an individualized plan specific to your needs and goals so you can live the present to its fullest.

Your plan could include one, or a combination, of the following services: individual therapy, group therapy, couples therapy, case management, and drug and alcohol consultations and assessments. We also specialize in interventions that help initiate treatment.

DEFINE TRAUMA

We believe that trauma is defined as suffering a severe life event such as sexual abuse, emotional abuse, domestic violence, sexual assault, loss of a loved one, or a significant accident/event. Trauma is not determined by the event itself, but by your experience and the meaning you take from it. Trauma can be a single event or a series of traumatic events that are repeated over time causing an individual to become overwhelmed with painful, frightening, or loathing emotions. Over the last few years, the definition of psychological trauma has been broadened to include traumatic experiences such as physical abuse, sexual abuse, and verbal abuse.

Trauma survivors may have experienced emotional childhood trauma in the form of an abusive parent or loved one. This type of abusive trauma may take the form of demanding, demeaning verbal attacks, or it could be in the form of physical or sexual abuse.

Trauma and repeated stressful events overtime can affect your brain in serious ways. It influences the volume of different parts of your brain, associated hormones, and alters neural connections to influence the way you think and react to your current circumstances. The research we base our treatments on show that these changes can be reversed over time. We have seen this happen to people like you.

“No matter what the type of childhood trauma, the negative impact on the victims is deep and lasting. Just as two people may not experience an event in the same way, no two people react to a stressful, traumatic event in the same way. While one person may find the ability to cope with a traumatic event, another may be unable to deal with the trauma by themselves in a productive manner.”

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a therapy treatment that facilitates the accessing and processing of traumatic memories and other adverse life experiences. It helps reframe negative beliefs and alleviate physiological arousal and distress.

EMDR helps in several ways. It helps you reprocess the negative past events and create new links to adaptive current information. It helps identify internal and external circumstances that trigger stress and helps desensitize them. Additionally, it helps you learn how to adapt and manage potential triggers in the future.
